Caitlin MacGregor is the founder and CEO of Ontario, Canada firm, Plum. The female-led technology company was founded in 2012 and develops software that helps hiring managers match applicants who are the right fit, reducing turnover from the very beginning. A $400,000 investment by BDC Capital helped her company go from fledgling startup in 2012 to a leader in Canada’s tech sector.

Funding for female-led technology firms

MacGregor was able to attract the attention of BDC Capital, who has committed $50 million to support technology startups led by women entrepreneurs. The commitment is in addition to the $700 million allocated by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) to fund women-owned businesses. MacGregor was able to secure $400,000 from BDC Capital. She recently received the final $250,000 in funding which has helped the company grow and attract top tech talent.

174% increase in growth

MacGregor has seen her company grow by 174 percent during the past year. The financial investment has been a boost to her business, but it has also made her company more attractive to other investors who now have the "confidence to invest in my business so growth in size and scale can happen faster.”

She hopes her example of success will encourage and inspire other female innovators and increase the number of women in the tech sector.
