First Asian-American Woman Elected to White House Cabinet Position
Tons of experience
Chao is an excellent choice. She has plenty of government office experience, including previously serving as secretary of labor from 2001 to 2009, deputy transportation secretary under former President George H.W. Bush, chair of the Federal Maritime Commission and director of the Peace Corps.
Sixty-three-year-old Chao will undoubtedly bring strong leadership to Trump's cabinet as well as expertise in leading a government office. Stated Trump about her nomination, “Secretary Chao’s extensive record of strong leadership and her expertise are invaluable assets in our mission to rebuild our infrastructure in a fiscally responsible manner.”
More to come?
About 12 women have been named as potential candidates for other cabinet positions, such as Secretary of the Interior, Commerce Department Secretary, Secretary of Defense, and head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Hopefully, Trump's transition team will have other announcements soon regarding more women being nominated for White House positions.
