Move Over Brawny Man -- For Brawny Woman

For the past 50 years, Brawny paper towels has featured a male character, aka "Brawny Man," in its commercials. Dressed in a red, flannel shirt, sleeves rolled up to show his muscular arms, he was positioned to show the strength of the product. But the maker of Brawny towels, Georgia-Pacific, now has a new campaign with the title: "Strength Has No Gender."

Introducing "Brawny Woman"

Why the change? According to the makers of Brawny products, "Today and every day, we celebrate women everywhere whose personal stories of strength and resilience have inspired the rest of us to reach higher and push further in the pursuit of our own dreams." Stepping into the 21st century, the new company campaign recognizes the strength in women.

The ads feature 4 strong women, each wearing a red flannel shirt, discussing the strength of their roles as an WNBA player, a firefighter, the president of a construction company, and the dean and president of Morehouse School of Medicine. As each woman states in the ads, “Strength isn’t defined by the man or the woman," "Strength is defined by the person.”

Move over Brawny Man and welcome Brawny Woman!!
