State of New York Increases Women-Owned Businesses From 9 Percent to More Than 20 Percent
Laurie A. Linn, Owner, President and CEO of Communiqué Design & Marketing, recently reached an important milestone in her career. She is among an elite group of small business owners who are certified as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE).
Laurie started the business in 1991 in Ithica, New York, offering full marketing services that include advertising, marketing, promotion, social media, and public relations. But the biggest feather in her cap has been to receive the coveted status as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) by the New York State Department of Economic Development.
Ms. Linn certainly deserves credit for her hard work and determination, yet she quickly focuses on how important her recent status is for all minority and women-owned businesses (MWBE). It means more contracts, growth and the creation of more jobs. The certification enables more MWBEs to get business-to-business contracts with the state government.
In just a short period of time, the state of New York has managed to increase MWBEs from 9 percent to over 20 percent. States Linn, “Governor Andrew M. Cuomo should be applauded for his efforts in economic development and encouraging business-to-business commerce with New York State, in particular with minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs)."
