Women-Owned Businesses Are Growing at the Rate of 1,288 a Day!
According to the 2014 State of Women-owned Businesses Report from American Express OPEN, women-owned businesses are on the rise. The number of new businesses owned by women in the U.S. are increasing by 1,288 a day. The growth is phenomenal, increasing from 8.6 million in 2013 to 9.1 million so far in 2014.
What is fueling the increase in women-owned businesses?
If you look at it from a woman's perspective, owning your own business has so much to offer in the way of benefits. Women often need to manage responsibility for both their professional and personal lives, struggling to work and take care of family simultaneously. More women are discovering that owning your own business gives them more flexibility to manage both facets of their life.
Women in business have more resources available
Women looking to start their own business have far more resources to help them than was available in the past. Organizations such as The National Association For Moms In Business, National Association of Women Business Owners, and the U.S. SBA's (Small Business Administration) Women's Business Centers are all in existence to provide assistance for women-owned businesses.
Why networking is so important
Technology has certainly played a key role in enabling more women to network with people who can provide information and resources that will help them start their own successful businesses. Networking puts more women in touch with information on how to start a business, financial resources, industry information, marketing and technology support, and expertise on how to grow their business.
Women are also nurturers by nature. They like to share. So, when women become successful, they are more likely to pay it forward to help other women. Women-owned businesses are not only on the rise but all indications are that they will continue to grow and remain a significant part of the American economy.
