African Women's Development Fund

African Women's Development Fund
The African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) provides grants to African womens' organizations working for the development and empowerment of women's rights. Grants are offered to women's organizations in Africa as well as in the U.S.

Grants are awarded in the following initiatives:
* Women’s Human Rights
* Economic Empowerment and Livelihoods
* Governance, Peace and Security
* Reproductive Health and Rights
* HIV & AIDS
* Arts, Culture and Sports

Organizations eligible for grants must be women-led non-profits. Grants range from $5,000 up to $50,000 and must demonstrate how their project will effect the empowerment of women in Africa. Organizations must be led and managed by women and be at least three years old.

AWDF was founded ten years ago by African women activists and supports women-led organizations in 42 African countries. The grants are funded through donations from major corporations such as the Ford Foundation, Carnegie Corporation, the MacArthur Foundation and others. The organization gives grants as well as technical assistance, advisory and management services to qualifying organizations.
