Toyota "Driving Solutions" Grants Honor Women

Three women were awarded Toyota Driving Solutions grants of $50,000 each at the annual Women in the World Summit. Toyota recognized the women business owners as "Mothers of Invention" for their work in creating ingenious solutions to global problems. The awards were presented at the annual Women in the World Summit.

Toyota was a sponsor at this year's Women in the World Summit. The Summit began in 2010 and is an annual event hosted by magazines Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Over 250,000 women from all over the world attend. The purpose of the summit is to address global women's issues and to recognize women and organizations who have worked to advance women and girls. Participants have included Meryl Streep, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and others.

The grants from Toyota recognized the accomplishments of women whose accomplishments included products that had a positive impact on food banks, farmers and consumers, and programs that help communities recover quickly from major disasters. The grants were awarded based on the accomplishments of women who have fostered social good and positively impacted communities.

Toyota is a major manufacturer of automobiles and trucks located in the U.S. since 1957. Their vehicles sell under brand names Toyota, Lexus and Scion and they operate nearly 1,500 dealerships in the U.S.
